Commission reports that trade agreements deliver tangible benefits to agriculture

According to the recently released European Commission report on the implementation of free trade agreements, the deals can be shown to have delivered tangible economic benefits for various sectors of the EU economy. Mexico is presented as the most “successful” FTA in terms of exports, which have increased by over 400% since the implementation of the EU-Mexico Global Agreement in 2000. Notably, the report singles out the motor vehicle and agricultural sectors as having benefited the most from free trade agreements, particularly in terms of the “new generation” deals such as with Colombia and Peru. In the case of Chile, it was also noted that the FTA helped to reduce inequality in the agricultural sector.
