Sugar refiners request

European refiners fully support the co-existence of different sugar producers in the EU as it has been the case for many years. ESRA’s request on behalf of cane sugar refiners is simply to ensure the sugar market is a level playing field subject to conditions of fair competition.

Sugar cane refiners can compete and deserve a fair chance to compete. However, this is only possible if the interests between all European sugar producers is kept in balance and access to raw materials on an equal footing is guaranteed.

The only way this can be achieved in a manner that is fair to our sector is through the inclusion of duty-free access to raw sugar via EU trade agreements with raw sugar exporters.
